Me as a Mom

What being a mom means to me.

3 year old talk

"Mommy! My eyes have water in them!!"

"It’s because you’re crying honey"

"Mommy, you’re owie will get budder? Like peanut budder?"

"No, It will get BETTER… not BUTTER."

My 3 year old was playing drums on some large tin cans so I decided to step it up a notch and have him make them into his own little drum set. He was super excited to make the drums. All you need is some sort of container that resembles a drum, duct tape and paint. Beans and paper plates for the shaker. Tape it all up. Attach a strap, I used an old towel. Let your child go wild with the paint but help a little if you don’t want the colours to mix too much and turn all yucky brown on ya and voila. It got really messy really fast. Not the prettiest thing we’ve ever made but who cares considering it was made out of junk lying around the house.

To most people and even my husband, these scribbles are not very exciting but to ME, these are my 3 yr old’s first attempt at writing letters. No one taught him. I just overheard him reciting letters to himself and then noticed his doodles were letters. From left to right: letters O D B C and E

Things My sweet 3 year old will say

Every Monday morning after his dad leaves the house, he’ll say, “I’m sad coz my Daddy is at work”

Tonight when I went in to kiss him goodnight, he said, “Sleep next to me… Go check on DD and make sure he’s ok, then after come see me.. please.”

Things my 3 year old tells me

"Cows eat grass and kids eat oatmeal"

"I read you a story… Mommy is tired and B is hungry"  =/

"Don’t KILL the ANT! He is sitting on the ground!"

"Mommy, I love DD" (his little brother)

These were so annoying to do, especially with a 5 month old and 3 year old. Will need a babysitter if I ever decide to do these again. The look on my child’s face when he saw them though…

Life changes - A healthier way of living: First step, less meat.

My husband and I want to live healthier, help our sons live healthier while saving money and helping the planet. Yea… don’t we all?..and that sounds like a whole whack of good stuff right? Change is obviously daunting and takes time and commitment but we plan to do it slowly and together, one step at a time.

For starters, in past few weeks, we’ve been eating less meat. We’ll never become true vegetarians, nor do we want to. I began collecting vegetarian recipes on my Pinterest and to my surprise, our meals have not only been nutritious but yummy and easy to make. I’ve also noticed that we’ve been eating a larger variety of vegetables when we make it the STAR of the dish. In the past, our veggies were simply a side dish, blanched or boiled with not much thought put into it.

Vegetarian Dishes we’ve made:

- Chinese Fried rice - pineapple, eggs, tofu, green onions, cashews, peas, corn, carrots, rice, soya sauce, sesame oil, salt and pepper

- Spinach lasagna (this is my husband’s specialty, he’s been adding different ingredients and experimenting)

- Green smoothies - our favourite combo so far is apple, avocado and spinach - amazing

- Eggplant in garlic sauce

- Quinoa with veggies

This weekend we are going to try another new recipe - Mango Salsa Black beans with Red Coconut rice. I hope it turns out!

Please join us  and support us in our journey! Let me know of what changes you’ve made or want to make to live better. Would love to hear.

I have to end my post now. Baby boy is awake. Have a great weekend!

I’ve seen this clothespin craft done with sharks, fish, alligators and even dinosaurs but not lions, so we had to do it!

Working on grammar…

"I am a booger."

"You mean you have a booger?"

"NO! I AM a booger, please help me"

Out of the Blue

B:

"Monkey eat the banana and chicks are inside the egg."

Don’t throw out those toilet paper rolls!

Super fun, super easy and many hours of fun afterwards. Learn about colour mixing (red and blue make purple) and octopuses. You don’t even need to paint if you don’t want to. Just cut the legs and your child’s imagination will do the rest. My son asked to make a “Mommy” octopus so we used a paper towel roll for the Mommy one.

“Some days I can’t believe I have 2 sons, and yet it feels like they have always been a part of me. They were always there. I love them so much.”
